Trek from Phakding to Namche (3440m)
Enter the Everest National Park and climb slowly up to Namche Bazaar through the DudhKoshi River today. We start off our day by walking northwards along the DudhKoshi. We will be passing through the magnificent forests of magnolia, giant fir, and rhododendron. If you are lucky and happen to come to this trek in the spring season, you will be met with the red colored rhododendrons in full bloom. Upon reaching Jorasale (2805m), we will be crossing the west fork of the BhoteKoshi River. From here, the climb up to Namche Bazaar is a steep one.
After a 300 meter ascent, we will be met with the magnetic views of the massive Everest and its summit high above us. The summit appears majestic and tall beside the Nuptse-Lhotse ridge. After climbing for another 300 meter we will be entering into the “entry point of the Everest”, the Namche Bazaar (3440m). Namche Bazaar was once a trading spot for Tibetans and Nepalese people. The trading route has now been closed.
Namche is now a prosperous village, full of Sherpas. You will find everything from trekking materials to an internet connection to other supplies easily. A weekly “haat” or “bazaar” is set up every week here where fresh foodstuffs, brought from lower villages are set up and sold. We will spend the night in the warm and welcomeing, Sherpa settlement of Namche. Approximately 7 hours of walk.
