Beginning in Kathmandu, explore historic royal squares and Buddhist stupas before travelling through Pokhara and into the spectacular Kali Gandaki Valley.

Ride Himalayan horses through the rugged landscapes of Lower Mustang, visit the sacred Muktinath Temple, and discover the ancient Bön village of Lubra. With small-group travel, experienced guides, local horsemen, scenic picnic lunches, and meaningful cultural encounters, every detail is thoughtfully arranged.

DAY 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a Sherpa Adventure representative and escorted to your private vehicle. Enjoy a comfortable transfer to your hotel, where our team will assist you with check-in. 

The remainder of the day is yours to relax and recover from your journey. In the evening, gather for a special welcome dinner featuring authentic Nepali hospitality. During dinner, your guide will introduce the upcoming journey, review the itinerary, and provide a detailed briefing on the route, riding experience, accommodation, weather conditions, and essential preparations.

DAY 2

Introduction to the Kathmandu Valley (1,400 m)

After breakfast, begin your introduction to the Kathmandu Valley with a guided visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square, the historic heart of the capital. Explore its ancient courtyards, intricately carved temples, royal architecture, and centuries-old traditions that continue to shape everyday life in the city.

Continue to Swayambhunath, one of Nepal’s most sacred Buddhist sites. Set on a hilltop above the valley, the stupa offers sweeping views across Kathmandu and a vivid introduction to Nepal’s Buddhist heritage. 

After lunch, visit Thamel, Kathmandu’s lively traveller district. There will be time to purchase or rent any remaining riding equipment, trekking gear, clothing, or personal supplies required for the journey. 

In the evening, travel to Boudhanath Stupa and join pilgrims on a peaceful kora, the traditional clockwise circumambulation of the stupa. Surrounded by prayer wheels, butter lamps, and the gentle rhythm of mantras, this is a meaningful and atmospheric conclusion to your day.

DAY 3

Flight to Pokhara / Jeep ride to Lete (2,480 m)

Begin the day with an early-morning flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a scenic journey of approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, enjoy breakfast by the shores of Phewa Lake before setting out towards the mountains. 

Travel by private jeep through changing landscapes, following winding roads, river valleys, terraced hillsides, and traditional settlements to reach Tatopani. Stop here for lunch and a short rest before continuing deeper into the Annapurna region. 

The journey then continues by jeep to Lete, a peaceful mountain village surrounded by pine forests and dramatic Himalayan scenery. This long but rewarding travel day marks the transition from Nepal’s subtropical foothills into the rugged landscapes where your equestrian adventure begins.

DAY 4

Jeep ride to Kagbeni / Horse ride into Muktinath (3,800 m)

After breakfast, depart Lete by private jeep and travel towards Kagbeni, an ancient fortified village set at the meeting point of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong rivers. On arrival, explore its narrow stone lanes, traditional mud-brick houses, sacred monuments, and timeless Himalayan atmosphere.

Visit the historic Kag Chode Thupten Samphel Ling Monastery, where a special puja will be performed to bless the journey ahead. Afterwards, enjoy lunch in Kagbeni before meeting the horses and the dedicated horsemen who will accompany you along the trail. 

Your equestrian journey begins with a guided ride to Muktinath, travelling through the traditional village of Jhong. The trail reveals Mustang’s arid valleys, ancient settlements, and striking mountain scenery, offering a memorable introduction to riding in the Himalayas.

DAY 5

Sacred Muktinath and Riding across Mustang (3,800 m)

After breakfast, set out on horseback towards the entrance of the sacred Muktinath Temple complex. From the entrance gate of the temple, continue on foot into one of Nepal’s most revered pilgrimage sites, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. 

Visit the main temple and take part in the traditional purification ritual beneath the 108 sacred water spouts. Pilgrims may also immerse themselves in the two holy ponds, believed to symbolically cleanse past wrongdoings and purify the body and spirit. Afterwards, visit the Buddhist monastery within the complex and learn about the spiritual traditions that have coexisted here for centuries. 

Following the temple visit, return for lunch and some time to rest. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided horseback excursion through Mustang’s vast, open landscape. Subject to the terrain, weather, and each rider’s experience, there may be opportunities for controlled trotting or galloping under the supervision of the riding team.

DAY 6

Horse ride to Lubra / Jeep ride to Lete

After breakfast, set out on a guided horseback journey to Lubra View Point, an ancient Himalayan village set within Mustang’s dramatic, windswept landscape. Ride along quiet mountain trails surrounded by arid valleys, sculpted cliffs, and distant snow-covered peaks.

Upon reaching Lubra, take time to discover the village’s traditional character and connection to the ancient Bön spiritual tradition. Enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch in the peaceful surroundings before continuing the day’s journey. 

Later, meet the support jeep and travel by private jeep back to Lete, descending through Mustang’s striking mountain scenery.

DAY 7

Return to Pokhara and a Restorative Retreat

After breakfast, leave Lete and begin the journey by private jeep to Pokhara. Descend through the changing landscapes of the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing mountain villages, waterfalls, forested hills, and river gorges along the way. 

Stop in Tatopani for lunch and a relaxing break before continuing towards Pokhara. Upon arrival, proceed to your hotel in Pumdikot and settle into the peaceful surroundings overlooking the valley and Himalayan foothills. 

After several rewarding days on horseback, unwind with a restorative sauna and massage—a well-deserved opportunity to relax and recover from the journey.

DAY 8

Sunrise over the Annapurnas and the Spirit of Pokhara

Before dawn, begin a short hike to the summit of Pumdikot. From this elevated viewpoint, watch the first light illuminate the magnificent Annapurna range, with panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. 

Return to the hotel for breakfast before driving into the Pokhara Valley. Visit the sacred Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, home to a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, followed by the powerful Devi’s Fall, where water disappears into a deep underground gorge.

Continue to Tal Barahi Temple, a two-tiered pagoda-style sanctuary situated on a small island in Phewa Lake. After lunch at Lakeside, spend the afternoon enjoying the peaceful waters of Phewa Lake, with a choice of boating or kayaking against the backdrop of forested hills and Himalayan peaks. Return to the resort in Pumdikot in the evening for a relaxing stay.

DAY 9

Return to Kathmandu and Leisure Time

After breakfast, check out from the resort and transfer to Pokhara Airport for the short flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel for check-in and rest. 

The remainder of the day is intentionally relaxed. Those who wish may visit Thamel to shop for souvenirs, traditional handicrafts, Himalayan products, and gifts to take home. Alternatively, enjoy a quiet afternoon at the hotel and recover at your own pace.

DAY 10

Farewell to Nepal

Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel before checking out. At the scheduled time, a Sherpa Adventure representative will meet you and provide a private transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. 

Depart your journey home carrying treasured memories of Nepal’s ancient heritage, Himalayan landscapes, sacred places, and unforgettable days on horseback.
