The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek combines the mountain landscapes of Langtang Valley with the sacred alpine lakes of Gosaikunda. Located north of Kathmandu, the region is accessible by road, making it an ideal choice for trekkers seeking a Himalayan journey without domestic flights.

The trail winds through rhododendron and bamboo forests, alongside mountain rivers and into open yak pastures. The surrounding peaks includes Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Naya Kanga and Yala Peak, creating a striking backdrop to the valley. At Kyanjin Gompa, Buddhist heritage and traditional mountain life meet beneath the towering Himalayas.

Home to Tamang communities and people of Tibetan origin, the region offers a rich cultural experience. Traditional villages, monasteries, prayer wheels and mani walls reflect its Buddhist traditions, while stays in local teahouses provide a welcoming introduction to life in the mountains.

The journey continues to Gosaikunda Lake, at approximately 4,380 metres, a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists. Surrounded by rocky slopes and smaller glacial lakes, Gosaikunda offers a dramatic contrast to the forests and villages below.

Combining the biodiversity of Langtang National Park, distinctive local culture and high-altitude scenery, this trek explores two of Nepal’s most rewarding Himalayan destinations in a single journey.

Revered by Hindus and Buddhists, Gosaikunda holds a special place in Nepal’s pilgrimage traditions. According to Hindu legend, Lord Shiva struck the mountain with his trident to release water and soothe his burning throat after swallowing a poison that threatened the world.
